Ed and Margie Janecka

Dubina…more than a place, it’s a spirit.

Ed and Margie Janecka live on a farm in Dubina, Texas. They have five children: Joe, Katie, Charlie, John and Elizabeth. They have seven grandchildren: Ana, Zack, Aiden, Isabelle, William, Jacob, and Felix.

Ed was born in Dubina and learned to speak Czech before he did English. His great great grandfather was one of the original founders of Dubina. He has two degrees from Sam Houston State University and is a Vietnam Veteran. Ed was elected County Judge of Fayette County in 1990 and he continued to hold that office until 2018.

Margie (Wick) Janecka was born in Weimar, Texas. Her ancestors also go back to Moravia: German on one side and Czech on the other. She graduated Suma Cum Laude with a degree in Math and worked on the Shuttle program at NASA. She currently owns her bsuiness as a tax consultant.

Both Ed and Margie have a passion for heritage and history. They have been collecting stories and pictures for over forty years.

They wrote this book because they felt the story of the men and women that lived in Dubina needed to be told.
